Solugen Secures $50 Million for Growth
Solugen, a company focused on sustainable agriculture solutions, has secured a $50 million equity investment to support its growth and expansion plans. The funding is led by Idealist Capital, along with support from Canada Growth Fund, which focuses on promoting a low-carbon economy.
This investment will help Solugen increase its production capacity and strengthen its mission to improve organic farming. The company aims to reduce the gap between organic and conventional crop yields through advanced fertilizer solutions.
"This investment marks a turning point for Solugen," said André Beaulieu‑Blanchette, Founder and CEO of Solugen. "Our technology delivers proven performance while reducing environmental impact. Scaling our operations will allow us to serve more growers and help close the yield gap in organic farming. With this support, we will continue growing our team and strengthening the foundations needed for long‑term, sustainable expansion."
Solugen produces Azogen, a liquid nitrogen fertilizer made from hog manure. This product provides a fast-release source of nitrogen, which is important for crop growth. It offers a practical solution for organic farmers who often struggle with lower yields compared to conventional farming methods.
The production process used by Solugen is circular and environmentally friendly. It helps manage manure waste while converting it into a valuable fertilizer. This approach supports both waste reduction and improved soil nutrition.
The company operates a modern and automated facility in Québec that runs continuously with low energy use. With the new funding, Solugen plans to expand this facility and build another plant in the same region. These developments will increase supply and help meet rising demand across North America.
Solugen is also preparing for future expansion into the United States as interest in sustainable farming continues to grow. The company plans to hire more team members to support its operations and provide better services to farmers.
"We believe Solugen's solution raises the bar for what organic fertilizer can deliver," said François Boudreault, Partner at Idealist Capital. "By converting manure into a circular, fast‑release fertilizer, the team has proven the reliability of their technology, showcasing strong execution and a clear path to scaling this technology where it can have meaningful impact."
Leadership at Solugen highlighted that investment is an important step for long-term growth. The company believes its technology can improve farm productivity while reducing environmental impact.
Overall, this funding will help Solugen strengthen its position in the organic agriculture market and support farmers with reliable, efficient, and sustainable fertilizer solutions.
