June 10, 2026, marked the official opening of the new Picton grain terminals.
Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) and Picton Terminals formally opened their new bulk agricultural marine terminal today, June 10, 2026—an event that marks the public debut of a facility that has already been operating for months.
Construction wrapped up in February, with receiving operations beginning on February 3. The terminal quietly reached another milestone on April 9, when the Ontario Venture became the first vessel loaded on site, carrying wheat and soybeans to P&H’s Quebec City terminal. It was the first agricultural shipment by ship from Picton in nearly 75 years, restoring deep‑water grain movement to Prince Edward County.
Today’s ribbon‑cutting highlighted the facility’s role in reshaping grain logistics across eastern Ontario. Farmers now have a closer, more efficient delivery point for corn, wheat, and soybeans—reducing travel time, easing truck traffic on Highway 401, and improving the speed at which grain can move to export markets.
The site includes eight concrete silos and three interstice/star bins for a total of 11 bins, with a capacity for 34,237 metric tonnes of wheat or 32,100 tonnes of corn.
Receiving and shipping speeds reach 1,000 MTPH (40,000 BPH), supported by a highly automated kiosk system designed to streamline producer deliveries. A state‑of‑the‑art shiploader helps limit dust during vessel loading.
John Heimbecker, the Chief Executive Officer of P&H, said the opening reflects a long‑term commitment to strengthening market access for farmers. “We’re incredibly excited to officially open the Picton Terminal and see this facility come to life. This investment creates new opportunities for farmers in Eastern Ontario by providing a more efficient path to market and strengthening our ability to connect Canadian agriculture to customers around the world.”
For P&H, the Picton site expands an export network that now serves 35 countries. For Picton Terminals, the partnership supports its strategy to modernize the port and grow commercial shipping activity.
With months of early operations already behind it, today’s event formally introduces a facility positioned to play a central role in eastern Ontario’s grain movement for years to come.
