Seven agri-food post-secondary programs to consider in Ontario

This two-year diploma program is delivered at the Regional Equine and Agricultural Centre of Huron in Clinton for the first year, and at Ridgetown Campus for the second year.

“In this program you will learn about equine nutrition, reproduction, health, conditioning, and management,” according to the program website.

“You will gain extensive equine theory combined with applied knowledge and broaden your equine business, finance, and management skills.”

Students will prepare to enter careers such as: equine events manager, equine marketing and sales representative, exercise rider, horse breeder, horse trainer, professional groom, race track manager and stable manager.

During the program, students will complete courses including: horse health, horse conditioning, horse reproduction, advanced horse nutrition, marketing, forage management for horses, financial management and leadership.

Applicants must hold an OSSD or mature student status. They must have obtained an average of at least 60 per cent in six grade 11 or grade 12 C, M, O or U courses. Grade 11 math and grade 12 English are also mandatory.
