Expanding E15 access boosts corn demand savings and rural stability

Farmers across the country continue to face difficult economic conditions. Row crop prices remain low, and production costs are at record highs. Many farm families worry about how long they can continue in this challenging environment. Since 2017, more than 160,000 farms have been lost, and communities fear that number may rise without meaningful support.

One clear way to help is expanding year-round access to E15, a fuel blend made from American-grown corn. Farmers and rural leaders believe this step can deliver real benefits for families, the farm economy, and the country. E15 supports affordable fuel options, strengthens local agricultural markets, and contributes to energy independence.

Today, about one-third of all U.S. corn is used to produce ethanol. Allowing permanent year-round sales of E15 could increase annual corn demand by up to 2.4 billion bushels. This increase would give family farms a needed boost and create a more secure market for corn growers nationwide.

Drivers would also benefit. If E15 remained available all year, families could save between 10 and 30 cents per gallon at the pump—up to 18 percent in fuel savings. These savings matter, especially when high prices place pressure on household budgets.

Beyond affordability, E15 also supports sustainable energy goals. Over the past decade, nearly 3 trillion pounds of corn have been used to produce clean, renewable fuel. Farmers are using improved soil health practices and modern technology to reduce emissions on their fields. Nationwide E15 adoption could cut carbon dioxide emissions by more than 17.62 million tons each year, which is equal to removing almost 4 million cars from the road.

Farmers remain committed to feeding families and helping communities grow stronger. Increasing E15 access is a practical and effective step that supports rural economies, lowers fuel costs, and promotes sustainability. Expanding this American-grown fuel can help families and farmers move toward a more stable future.
