Agriculture sector hit hard by red tape according to CFIB

A new study from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says farmers are among the hardest hit by government red tape.

CFIB vice president for Agri-business, Marilyn Braun-Pollon of Regina, says farmers are feeling huge stress by troublesome regulations and forms.

“Across the country, there’s business owners and farmers that are dealing with confusing forms, or bad customer service, or excessive government regulations, and that is leaving our producers feeling pretty burnt out and unfortunately the problem is getting worse, not better.”

Braun-Pollon says farmers point to StatsCan as a key example of how things are getting worse when it comes to red tape.

“Farmers are saying ‘why do they send me this survey?’ Even if they’ve reduced the list of it, they’re sending it right in the middle of seeding,” Braun-Pollon says. “That just doesn’t make any sense, so they want some common sense brought back to how rules and regulations are developed.”
