Association Annual Meeting Updates

It was a busy day yesterday (February 4th) across the province, with several pork producer association annual meetings taking place. Below is an update on each of the meetings.

Twenty enthusiastic pork producers came together for lunch in Arnprior for the Ottawa/Carleton/Lanark and Renfrew County Pork Producers’ Associations Annual Meetings. The participants were actively engaged in the presentation delivered by Ontario Pork Director, Oliver Haan and staff member, Jean Howden. Individual Annual Meetings were held and local business was discussed. Association executives were appointed for 2013.

Approximately twenty pork producers attended the Simcoe and York County Pork Producers’ Association Annual Meeting in Alliston. Kristen Kelderman of Farm & Food Care (FFC) delivered an impressive presentation on what FFC is all about and discussed a long list of activities they are undertaking on behalf of all agriculture, most specifically about pork. She also made mention of the upcoming forum on Cultivating the Future, which will take place next week (February 12th and 13th) in Guelph; as well as their Annual General Meeting scheduled on April 3rd. The Board report was delivered by Ontario Pork Directors Arno Schober and Beth Clark. The two associations separated briefly to conduct their own meeting. Elections were not needed this year. York County made a generous donation to the FFC Foundation on behalf of their producers.

About forty people attended the Middlesex Pork Producers’ Association Annual Meeting last night at the Coldstream Community Hall for the Middlesex Pork Producers Association Annual Meeting. Guest speakers included Mike Moffat, Trade Specialist at the Richard Ivey School of Business who spoke on opportunities in international trade and Patrick O’Neil gave a presentation on statistics and services offered by the Ontario Pork Marketing Division. Ontario Pork Directors Teresa Van Raay and Bill Wymenga, delivered the Board Report and Jim Weir provided an Ontario Pork operations report. Elections were not held.
