Beef Cattle Outlook, Mealybug Control Seminar Set for Sept. 2 in Marlin

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a Beef Cattle Market Outlook and Mealybug Control Seminar on Sept. 2 at the Marlin Men’s Civic Association, 1104 Texas 6 Business, Marlin.

Registration will begin at 5:45 p.m. The $15 event fee includes dinner. To register, call the AgriLife Extension office in Falls County at 254-883-1410 by Aug. 27. Anyone needing special assistance to participate should contact Pasquale Swaner, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Falls County, or Melissa Fulton, AgriLife Extension office manager, at least seven days before the event.

Participants can also earn two Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator integrated pest management continuing education units for attending.

The program will cover the following topics: 

  • Beef cattle market outlook – David Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension livestock marketing economist and professor, Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics.
  • New World screwworm update – Tracy Tomascik, Texas Farm Bureau associate director of commodity and regulatory livestock and animal health, Waco.
  • Pasture mealybug update – Tyler Mays, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent, Hillsboro.
  • Control recommendations and product-specific control options – Austin Koonce, BASF representative.
