Sprayer Companion is farm safety winner at Manitoba Ag Days

Setter’s Sprayer Companion was the winner in the Farm Safety class in the Innovation Showcase hosted at Manitoba Ag Days, Brandon, January 16-18.

Setter’s Sprayer Companion, with the options of a programmable monitor and electric on/off valves, is built for fast, efficient and safe loading of chemical products. The optional Drylock system eliminates any contact with insecticides. This is compact and versatile for spray operators.

The chemical handler is the heart of a tender system (aka nurse truck) for the safe and efficient loading of products into a sprayer, explains Jason Deveau, application technology specialist, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).

“Any operation that’s looking for efficiency and finds they are spending an inordinate amount of time loading their sprayers would benefit from this technology,” says Deveau.

“So yes, I think large potato operations would benefit, but in their case they spend a lot of time turning,” says Deveau. “When you use the productivity calculator to figure out what operators spend the most time on, many of these operators are in tight quarters and have to fold up the boom on every turn, and that’s a huge productivity sink. So, while a chem handler has a big impact on most operations, potato operators may find their biggest productivity loss isn’t loading, but turning.”
