Nebraska Manure Demonstration Day To Be Held July 29, 2014

By Leslie Johnson

The Nebraska Animal Manure Management team at the University of Nebraska is planning a Nebraska Manure Demonstration Day at the Dawson County Fairgrounds in Lexington, Nebraska on July 29, 2014. The Demonstration is modeled after the North American Manure Expo that was held in Norfolk, Nebraska in July of 2011 but will be smaller and focused on the Nebraska manure industry rather than a national audience.

The show will feature booths and demonstrations from vendors that sell equipment in the state of Nebraska. In addition to vendors, there will be learning opportunities for those interested in better manure management and handling techniques. Some of these educational workshops will offer CCA credits and Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) recertification for Land Application Training will be offered as part of the program.

In Queen Anne in Queen Anne’s county, Farmer David Denny works hard to raise hundreds of chickens so that they may reach regular growth milestones on schedule. This is important because poultry integrators like Purdue require the chickens to be a certain size and weight in a set number of weeks. How can such a feit be accomplished so consistently in such a short period of time? It’s all due to the birds' carefully planned diet, which is tailor-made to meet their nutritional needs. The process begins long before any chickens even arrive on the farm all thanks to Farmer David and the grains he grows throughout the year. These grains are in turn used to create the exact feed which provides the necessary nutrients to the David Denny Farm’s poultry.
