Parliament to Postpone “Certain” Provisions of Canada Transportation Act

Transport Minister Marc Garneau and Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAuley say they’ll work with parliament to postpone the repeal of certain provisions of the Canada Transportation Act for one year.

The provisions were enacted in 2014 by the Fair Rail for Grain Farmers Act and deal with such things as extended distances for interswitching and level-of-service obligations.

They were set to expire in August.
