Rain Causing Problems For Crops

A complex storm system is expected to impact a big part of Saskatchewan over the next couple of days.

World Weather Agri-Meteorologist Drew Lerner says rainfall amounts will range from 30 to 60 even up to 100 millimeters depending on the area you’re in.

"Look for the heaviest rains to occur from the Stewart Valley area up north through Saskatoon and then from there over towards Prince Albert, Melfort and down towards Humboldt."

Lerner says the storm could also hit further south and a little to the east but notes the lightest rain is expected in the South East.

The southeast needs a break from the storm activity in the last week they’ve been pelted with damaging hail and heavy rain that has caused some significant crop damage.

Joe Melle farms between Lampman and Estevan and says in June they had excellent conditions.

"You know we just finished spraying our fungicides on it and the durum and canola is just wrecked. We lost a half section of barley and we lost about thirteen quarters total of production

Yesterday areas around Estevan in the last week have seen strong winds, heavy rain and hail which has caused significant damage to crops.
