Spring Calving Underway

It's a busy time of year for many cattle producers in Manitoba, as spring calving gets underway.

Manitoba Beef Producers General Manager Brian Lemon says many producers have planned calving for this time of year, while others are watching for premature births.

He notes the safety of the new born animals is the top concern for producers.

"Getting away from the farm gets tough this time of year." said Lemon. "The cattle are not unlike many other animals, when it's time, it's time and so being close at hand...is really important to make sure you're available to do everything you can for any calves that are born this time of year to make sure that they're warm and taken care of and they get up and about."
