Reducing header loss, improving yield

Farms.com spoke with Chrisa Kastning of Duck Foot Parts at the National Farm Machinery Show in February 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky, about the Duck Foot aftermarket paddle tine. Created by Chrisa and her husband Steve, the Duck Foot series of paddle tines are a proven cost and time-efficient way to solve header loss.

“My husband and I started this company after he innovated the idea of the Duck Foot, which is basically a fast-and-easy slip-over paddle tine that goes right on your combine header,” explained Kastning.

Designed to clear the cutter bar and decrease header loss, the Duck Foot aftermarket paddle tine feeds crops more evenly into the combine header for improved threshing and yield, while allowing for increased ground speed.

“We recommend that you put it on every second tine and then offset on you next bat. The point is to keep the grain moving and reducing your header loss,” added Kastning.

The Duck Foot paddle tine fits MacDon, John Deere, Case, New Holland, AGCO and Massey Ferguson headers and has been used in peas, hay, lentils, chickpeas, soybeans, lupins, edible beans, flax, straight cut canola and all cereals.

The recommended number of tines based on size of header are as follows: 45’ header should have 205 tines, 40’ header should have 190 tines, 35’ header should have 175 tines and 30’ header should have 160 tines.

Key Benefits

• Prevents shelling and stripping
• Helps clear cutter bar
• Even threshing
• Increased ground speed
• Quick installation
• Eliminates need for air reels
• Reduces header loss in crops such as barley, lentils, wheat and soybeans by 50 percent
