USDA Export Sales Highlights

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period April 29-May 5, 2011.

Wheat:  Net sales of 320,600 MT for the 2010/11 marketing year were up 17 percent from the previous week and 15 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Peru (72,000 MT), Colombia (59,200 MT, including 20,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Saudi Arabia (57,800 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Nigeria (46,900 MT, including 25,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Israel (36,800 MT), Guatemala (32,900 MT, including 32,100 MT switched from unknown destinations), Venezuela (15,900 MT), and El Salvador (11,300 MT, including 9,900 MT switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (64,100 MT), Spain (7,700 MT), Italy (7,000 MT), and China (6,000 MT).  Net sales of 229,900 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were mainly for Nigeria (75,000 MT), the Philippines (39,000 MT), South Korea (26,900 MT), and Italy (20,000 MT).  Exports of 1,026,500 MT--a marketing-year high--were up 18 percent from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Egypt (123,700 MT), Iraq (104,100 MT), Nigeria (104,000 MT), Japan (103,100 MT), South Korea (69,300 MT), and Saudi Arabia (57,800 MT).  

Corn:  Net sales of 433,800 MT were up 53 percent from the previous week, but down 17 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Japan (175,300 MT, including 40,600 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 8,300 MT)South Korea (110,100 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Egypt (69,100 MT), Saudi Arabia (66,000 MT, including 60,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Venezuela (33,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (122,100 MT) and Taiwan (15,800 MT).  Net sales of 23,700 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were for Japan (10,900 MT), El Salvador (10,700 MT), and Panama (2,000 MT).  Exports of 860,300 MT were up 8 percent from the previous week, but down 8 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (292,900 MT), Mexico (215,000 MT), Egypt (90,100 MT), Taiwan (79,500 MT), and Saudi Arabia (66,000 MT).  

Barley:  There were no sales reported during the week.  Exports of 900 MT were to Canada.  

Sorghum:  Net sales of 116,600 MT resulted as increases for Mexico (116,200 MT) and Japan (9,700 MT, including 9,100 MT switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (9,100 MT) and Spain (200 MT).  Exports of 42,200 MT were to Mexico (32,500 MT) and Japan (9,700 MT).

Rice:  Net sales of 67,500 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and up 30 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (27,200 MT), South Korea (22,900 MT), Ghana (10,000 MT), El Salvador (6,600 MT), and Honduras (2,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for Iraq (6,000 MT), Turkey (2,200 MT), Equatorial Guinea (500 MT), and Liberia (200 MT).  Exports of 47,900 MT were down 20 percent from the previous week and 32 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were South Korea (12,600 MT), Liberia (12,200 MT), El Salvador (6,600 MT), Saudi Arabia (3,800 MT), and Mexico (3,600 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 59,000 MT resulted as increases for Japan (27,100 MT), Mexico (18,800 MT), unknown destinations (18,000 MT), Taiwan (13,700 MT), and Indonesia (8,800 MT), were partially offset by decreases for China (49,000 MT).  Net sales of 3,300 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were for Japan.  Exports of 180,600 MT were down 10 percent from the previous week and 51 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were primarily to China (66,000 MT), Mexico (46,900 MT), Egypt (18,800 MT), Taiwan (17,400 MT), and Japan (13,400 MT).

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 61,000 MT were down 23 percent from the previous week and 51 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Canada (21,800 MT), El Salvador (21,300 MT, including 8,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), Morocco (12,200 MT), Guatemala (8,500 MT, including 8,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 1,200 MT), and Honduras (8,200 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (21,000 MT), Venezuela (6,000 MT), and Ireland (2,900 MT).  Exports of 107,500 MT were down 40 percent from the previous week and 28 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Venezuela (20,700 MT), Canada (18,200 MT), Mexico (17,700 MT), Morocco (16,500 MT), and El Salvador (8,500 MT).  

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 2,000 MT were down 48 percent from the previous week and 78 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Venezuela (1,000 MT), Mexico (700 MT), and the Dominican Republic (100 MT).  Exports of 2,500 MT--a marketing-year low--were down 90 percent from the previous week and 88 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Venezuela (1,000 MT), Canada (800 MT), and Mexico (600 MT).

Cotton:  Net Upland sales reductions of 1,200 RB resulted as increases for China (19,600 RB), Turkey (17,900 RB), Thailand (2,500 RB, including 300 RB switched from Japan and decreases of 600 RB), and Vietnam (2,500 RB), were more than offset by decreases for Bangladesh (45,000 RB), South Korea (1,900 RB), and Japan (1,100 RB).  Net sales of 72,000 RB for delivery in 2011/2012 were mainly for Turkey (46,200 RB) and Vietnam (13,200 RB).  Exports for own account were reported for Turkey (2,200 RB) and China (1,900 RB).  Exports of 350,500 RB were down 18 percent from the previous week and 2 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (92,900 RB), Turkey (57,200 RB), Pakistan (28,900 RB), Brazil (26,100 RB), Mexico (25,800 RB), and Indonesia (24,800 RB).  Net American Pima sales reductions of 400 RB resulted as increases for Pakistan (700 RB) and Thailand (300 RB), were more than offset by decreases for Mexico (500 RB), India (500 RB), and Japan (400 RB).   Net sales of 4,000 RB for delivery in 2011/2012 were mainly for Peru (2,600 RB), India (1,400 RB), and Mexico (500 RB).  Decreases were reported for South Korea (1,000 RB).  Exports of 5,500 RB were primarily to India (2,300 RB), Indonesia (1,500 RB), and Japan (700 RB).  

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 640,600 pieces for delivery in 2011--a marketing-year high--were up 55 percent from the previous week and 67 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary buyers were China (284,300 pieces), South Korea (132,200 pieces, including 1,200 pieces switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 11,600 pieces) Italy, (72,700 pieces), Hong Kong (49,900 pieces), Taiwan (42,200 pieces), and Mexico (23,600 pieces).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (12,700 pieces), the Dominican Republic (4,100 pieces), and Egypt (1,100 pieces).  Exports of 445,600 pieces were down 7 percent from the previous week and 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hides exports of 441,300 pieces were primarily to China (189,700 pieces), South Korea (104,900 pieces), Hong Kong (34,500 pieces), Taiwan (26,200 pieces), Italy (24,800 pieces), and Mexico (18,900 pieces).                 

Net sales of 319,100 wet blues for delivery in 2011--a marketing-year high--were primarily for Italy (230,300 unsplit), China (54,000 unsplit), Vietnam (15,100 unsplit), Taiwan (8,700 unsplit), and the Dominican Republican (6,900 unsplit and 6,300 grain splits).  Decreases were reported for Mexico (900 unsplit), Hong Kong (900 unsplit), and Thailand (200 unsplit).  Exports of 167,600 hides were primarily to Italy (61,700 unsplit and 5,200 grain splits), China (41,000 unsplit), Hong Kong (13,700 unsplit), and Thailand (8,400 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 3,830,900 pounds were for South Korea (3,785,300 pounds), Hong Kong (43,600 pounds), and Vietnam (7,800 pounds).  Decreases were reported for Italy (5,900 pounds).  Exports of 404,300 pounds were to South Korea (260,700 pounds) and Hong Kong (143,600 pounds).

Beef:  Net sales of 16,700 MT for delivery in 2011 were primarily for Japan (4,800 MT), Canada (3,300 MT), South Korea (2,000 MT), Russia (1,600 MT), and Mexico (1,400 MT). Exports of 13,900 MT were mainly to Japan (2,700 MT), Mexico (2,500 MT), Canada (2,400 MT), South Korea (2,100 MT), and Russia (1,300 MT).
