By Joe Dales, Farms.com

The Farms.com team participated at the Farm Progress Show near Boone, Iowa this year and was impressed with many of the new products and services.  The week started off with some threatening weather in Iowa but the last two days of the show were perfect, not too hot and nice sunny days.  The farmer’s were in a decent mood, big corn and soybean crops coming but there was definitely a concerned feeling about the future business impact on everyone’s farms with low grain prices.

Here are a few highlights that had farmers talking.

 1. Futuristic Case IH Autonomous Tractor Concept Unveiled.

Farmers and industry professionals flocked to the Case IH exhibit and expressed their thoughts and opinions on the new cabless, driverless Magnum concept tractor.  An interesting new concept that illustrates some of the new technologies being incorporated into the farm machinery of the future.

  1. New Tribine Harvester Introduced And Demonstrated.

One of the busiest exhibits was the Tribine display where many farmers got to see the bright orange TRIBINE Harvester in person. The new combination of combine and 1000 bushel grain cart was a popular discussion topic. We were able to do a video news interview with Ben Dillon the President of TRIBINE for an overview of the new machinery.

3. Farm Progress Show Corn Harvesting and Tillage Demonstrations.

Farmers love to watch all of the new combines, tractors, grain carts, tillage tools and grain head technologies in action. The weather cooperated on each day and while the corn could have used a few more weeks to fully dry down, the combines did a great job of harvesting.

Here is a play list of some of the Farm Progress Show corn harvest demonstrations and tillage demos.

  1.  New Machinery Product Introductions from John Deere, Case IH, AGCO, CLAAS and more.

The machinery companies often use the Farm Progress Show to launch new products and this year’s show did not disappoint.John Deere had a series of new product announcements, Case IH stopped the show with the Autonomous Tractor , AGCO unveiled the high horsepower Challenger 1000 tractor and CLAAS Xerion Series tractors were on display and in the Corn Harvest demonstrations.

Dicamba Returns for Georgia Farmers: What the New EPA Ruling Means for Cotton Growers

Video: Dicamba Returns for Georgia Farmers: What the New EPA Ruling Means for Cotton Growers

After being unavailable in 2024 due to registration issues, dicamba products are returning for Georgia farmers this growing season — but under strict new conditions.

In this report from Tifton, Extension Weed Specialist Stanley Culpepper explains the updated EPA ruling, including new application limits, mandatory training requirements, and the need for a restricted use pesticide license. Among the key changes: a cap of two ½-pound applications per year and the required use of an approved volatility reduction agent with every application.

For Georgia cotton producers, the ruling is significant. According to Taylor Sills with the Georgia Cotton Commission, the vast majority of cotton planted in the state carries the dicamba-tolerant trait — meaning farmers had been paying for technology they couldn’t use.

While environmental groups have expressed concerns over spray drift, Georgia growers have reduced off-target pesticide movement by more than 91% over the past decade. Still, this two-year registration period will come with increased scrutiny, making stewardship and compliance more important than ever.
