Nine Competitors Ready to Serve up Ribs

It’s one of the messiest events of the year – Rotary Club of Guelph’s 15th Annual Ribfest kicks-off today. The three day event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Guelph-Trillium that will give the proceeds of the event to charities in the community. The event is also sponsored by local businesses and draws over 50,000 visitors over the course of three days.

The popular event has nine “ribbers” seeking to win over your taste buds. Out of the list of competitors there is only one from Guelph – Silver Bullet and the rest are from Toronto, Oshawa, London, Mississauga and Port Colborne. There is something for everyone - from live entertainment to a classic car show and kids’ activities.  This is an event that you don’t want to miss!

Significant populations of grassweeds, including ryegrass and brome, can threaten winter wheat yields. Spring applications of a contact graminicide, such as Broadway Star from Corteva Agriscience, can clear problem weeds, allowing crops to grow away in the spring.

Broadway Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam) controls ryegrass, sterile brome, wild oats and a range of broad-leaved weeds such as cleavers. It can be applied to winter wheat up until GS32, but the earlier the application is made, the smaller the weed, and the greater the benefit to the crop. Weeds should be actively growing. A good rule of thumb is that if your grass needs cutting, conditions are right to apply Broadway Star.
