US ruling protects farmers and limits state claims on Roundup labeling rules
The United States Supreme Court issued a major 7:2 ruling in the Durnell Roundup case, confirming that federal law overrides state-based claims related to product warnings. The decision supports the role of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in determining the safety of crop protection products.
The ruling found that state-level claims requiring different warning labels conflict with federal law under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). This means companies that follow EPA-approved labeling cannot face additional penalties under state laws.
