Two experiences help reflect Alberta’s diversity

Alberta’s tourism sector generated about $12.7 billion in visitor spending in 2023, and ag experiences help contribute to that revenue.

For 2025, Travel Alberta is highlighting two ag destinations for summer visitors.

One sees grain storage taken to a new level.

Saddle Hill Ranch Cabins in Pincher Creek turned five grain silos into vacation cabins nestled near the Castle River.

“This innovative project transforms repurposed grain silos into cozy, themed accommodations, offering guests an unforgettable stay with panoramic views of Alberta’s iconic landscapes,” Travel Alberta says. “Saddle Hill Ranch Cabins is a perfect example of how tourism can support rural economies and preserve Alberta’s ranching heritage.”

The tourism experience is owned by farmers Dylan and Brea Morrison.

They’ve been working on this project for two years, a social media post says.

“This has been a dream of our family for a long time, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone,” the family said on March 9.

Saddle Hill Ranch Cabins is scheduled to open June 1.

The other ag spot Travel Alberta is highlighting is Granary Road in Foothills.

A staple in the community with its learning park, summer camps and farmer’s market, this summer will mark the completion of a major expansion.

“The development includes an Immersive Agricultural Experience with over 30 exhibits celebrating Alberta’s ranching and farming heritage,” Travel Alberta says.

Granary Road is scheduled to open in May.

Farmers are no strangers to turning unused items into viable alternatives.

In 2024, for example, a British farmer transformed a Massey Ferguson 860 combine into a hotel room complete with a fridge and a king-sized bed.

And in Saskatchewan, Bin There Campground also turned multiple grain bins into cabins.
