Angela Fairfield is the winner of the Farms.com #OntAgVolunteer contest!

Fairfield and the Durham East 4-H Association will each receive a prize of $100.

Giving back to the community acts as a way to promote agriculture, says Fairfield.

"I work in ag and I volunteer in ag," she said. "We need to get the word out about what we do, how we do it and why we do it. (Volunteering) helps send the message about all the good things the agricultural community is doing."

Fairfield is a cash crop farmer from Durham East, a dairy feed nutritionist with Floradale Feed Mill and a leader at her local 4-H Association.

Her involvement with 4-H started after working on a dairy farm.

"I was in university (before joining 4-H)," she said. "I grew up in the city, but my parents were both from a farm background. I worked a few summers on a dairy farm and the neighbour's kids were involved in 4-H and said I should join.

The contest coincided with National Volunteer Week, which celebrates those who donate their time to various organizations.

"Congratulations to Angela for winning the #OntAgVolunteer contest," said Andrea Gal, managing editor, Farms.com. "We appreciate the volunteers in the agricultural community and hope that the prize helps the Durham East 4-H Association."

Historically wars like the 2026 Iran war are bullish hard assets like grains, metals and energy! The funds are spooked and do not want to be short, but do they price in the news over time, similar to the Ukraine/Russian war that started on Feb. 24, 2022? A closure of the Strait of Hormuz is the key to the surge in crude oil, natural gas prices and fertilizer prices.  Grains are breaking out to new contract highs as a hedge against inflation.
