The Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) and Alberta Barley today launched the Advancing Ag Future Leaders Program – an initiative aimed at encouraging young ag professionals to further their careers in the industry. the inaugural event will be held in Red Deer June 8, 2017.

AdvancingAg pairs selected mentees with an agricultural industry leader who will share their knowledge and expertise based on similar interests and career goals over a 12-month period.

“The AdvancingAg selection committee is elated to host its first event to help facilitate these mentee/mentor relationships and get this pilot year off to a productive start,” says Kevin Bender, AWC Vice-Chair.

This event is a meet-and-greet and is the matches’ first opportunity to build their professional relationship and mentoring plan for the year. To inspire the mentees, independent agronomist and Nuffield Scholar, Kristina Polziehn, will speak on challenging the status quo to achieve success and Charlie Bredo, co-founder of Troubled Monk Brewery, will explain how to harness entrepreneurial spirit.

“AdvancingAg’s goal of pairing young agri-professionals with leaders who can share their knowledge and experience while assisting in key professional development opportunities is becoming a reality,” added Dave Bishop, Vice-Chair of Alberta Barley.
