Arabian Horses On Display In Brandon

A free event for horse lovers is taking place this week in Brandon.

The Arabian Horse Association is hosting its Arabian & Half-Arabian Canadian National Show through Saturday at the Keystone Centre with approximately 500 horses and 600 riders/exhibitors on display.

The event showcases youth, amateur and professional classes in a variety of disciplines, including hunter, western and saddleseat pleasure classes, reining, jumping, and dressage.

Julian McPeak is the Marketing and Communications Manager with the Arabian Horse Association.

"Arabian horses, we think, are the most beautiful horses on the planet," she said. "They are actually considered the root of all modern breeds. They're one of the oldest horses in the world and so almost every of your modern day horses...they all have Arabian somewhere in their bloodline and in their heritage."

Free TAIL tours are also being offered to the public, which allows spectators to meet and pet the horses and find out more about them from a volunteer.

The event in Brandon has been renewed for 2015 and 2016.

Video: World Pork Expo: Tackling oxidative stress at critical stages in swine production

Dr. Marlin Hoogland, veterinarian and Director of Innovation and Research at Feedworks, speaks to The Pig Site's Sarah Mikesell just after World Pork Expo about how metabolic imbalance – especially during weaning, late gestation and disease outbreaks – can quietly undermine animal health and farm profitability.

In swine production, oxidative stress may be an invisible challenge, but its effects are far from subtle. From decreased feed efficiency to suppressed growth rates, it quietly chips away at productivity.

Dr. Hoogland says producers and veterinarians alike should be on alert for this metabolic imbalance, especially during the most physiologically demanding times in a pig’s life.
