Arysta Offers Wheat Farmers New Products

Wheat farmers will have access to new crop protection products. Arysta Life Science has released Pre-Pare herbicide and looks for government approval for their new fungicide FORTIX. Arysta Life Science Herbicide Development Manager Chad Effertz said using Pre-Pare in wheat is a different concept in addressing brume and rescue grass species.


"We're trying to go after 'em pre-emergent," Efferents said. "So especially if you are adapted to no-till and you are burning down with glyphosate, add your Pre-Pare to that mix and that is going to give you that control in the fall."


The latest research conducted by Arysta Life Science has found that brome that comes up with winter wheat will reduce yields by 20 percent. Effertz said if the brome emerges three weeks later then there is very little effect on yields.


"So its really that early season that has the most yield impact and that's where Pre-Pare really fits." Effertz said. "It has that short burst of soil activity, reduce that rescue grass and brome early on, protect your yield and then as you come in with a broad leaf material or if you need additional grass control you can do that in the spring but you haven't lost your yield at that point."

In using Pre-Pare there will be some rotational restrictions. Effertz said Pre-Pare works well in rotations with cotton, double crop soybeans and it work well for wheat on wheat acres. He said one of the restrictions is using Pre-Pare on wheat, then going to sorghum, if a farmer has a crop failure.


Arysta Life Science is also awaiting a product registration for their new fungicide FORTIX. Effertz said FORTIX has been approved already for corn and soybeans and they have submitted their request to the Environmental Protection Agency for the product use in winter wheat.
