(WEST FARGO, N.D. ) Bobcat Company has released the Tier 4-compliant 5600 and 5610 Toolcat™ utility work machines that incorporate a non-DPF (diesel particulate filter) engine solution. These machines also feature a traction control system designed to provide operators with better mobility when ground conditions are conducive to traction loss, or the machines’ wheels encounter obstructions, such as rocks or debris.
Operator-activated traction control increases performance and confidence
A new illuminated rocker switch located on the dash of the 5600 and 5610 utility work machines allows operators to turn the traction control system on or off as needed.
The traction control feature is integrated with the machines’ electronics, which allows it to sense speed differentials that typically occur when wheels experience traction loss due to soft ground, snow and ice, or terrain that causes a wheel to lose contact with the ground. The system also senses when wheels encounter obstructions, changes in grade and higher traction levels. Once engaged, as an operator holds a constant low-range speed, the system transfers torque to the wheels with the highest traction.
One of the most significant benefits of this traction engagement system is its ability to function like a locking differential while retaining the advantages of its limited slip differentials. This feature is especially useful to buildings and grounds crews, farmers and homeowners with acreage who are frequently working on terrain with changing conditions and grades. The traction control feature is an option on the 5600 model and is a standard configuration on the 5610 model.
The traction control system works in conjunction with the Bobcat® utility work machines’ four-wheel independent suspension system. The long wheelbase of Toolcat machines allows the independent suspension of each tire more time to adjust between each impact when traveling over uneven ground. The suspension system also maximizes traction by maintaining tire-to-ground contact while isolating the machine from changes in terrain, resulting in less impact to the frame, cab and attachments. This reduces bounce, spillage and vibration when carrying materials. In addition, the specially designed suspension stops provide support at maximum lift or payload capacity.
A non-DPF solution partnered with more torque and protection mechanisms
The Tier 4 Bobcat non-DPF solution was achieved by designing an ultra-low particulate combustion (ULPC) engine. The ULPC is accomplished through a specially designed engine combustion chamber that significantly reduces the amounts of particulate matter created during combustion. Therefore, Tier 4 emissions compliance can be achieved without using a DPF.
In addition to eliminating the need for a DPF, the new engines used in the 5600 and 5610 Toolcat utility work machines will have a 12 percent increase in torque. This increase in torque is produced over a wide range of engine rpm, allowing operators of all skill levels to better utilize the machines’ maximum performance.
Additionally, the new Tier 4 Toolcat machines feature a machine protection system that monitors, manages and shuts down the engine if needed. This system monitors engine coolant and oil temperatures and will manage engine systems to reduce the potential of these fluids reaching a point where the machine has to be shut down. This minimizes potential damage to the engine, stops unnecessary engine wear and keeps operators working.
Another new feature of the 5600 and 5610 utility work machines’ Tier 4 engines is cold weather protection. Anytime the engine temperature is at or below 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 degrees Celsius), the loader will temporarily limit the maximum engine speed (rpm) to prevent premature component wear or failure. Engine idle speed is also raised slightly to help the engine reach its operating temperature faster. As soon as the engine warms up to a predetermined temperature, the protection mechanism will deactivate.
High-performance units designed to complete multiple tasks
The versatile 61-horsepower 5600 and 5610 Toolcat utility work machines combine the most productive features of a pickup truck, tractor, skid-steer loader and utility vehicle. Both machines are compatible with more than 40 approved front-mounted attachments for dozens of jobs, from snow removal to sweeping to installing fences. The 5610 allows operators to use front-mounted attachments, as well as PTO and rear remote hydraulics to power Category 1, 3-point hitch implements or attachments. These capabilities increase the functionality of a Toolcat machine, and help create a high level of utilization on college campuses, parks, airports, farms, acreages and a variety of other applications.
These two-passenger machines can haul, tow and lift the most challenging loads. The 5600 can haul 2,000 pounds of tools, materials and supplies in the 17-cubic-foot cargo box. Towing capacity for both machines is 4,000 pounds, enabling the efficient transport of trailered supplies and light equipment up to a speed of 17 mph.
With the press of a button, Toolcat utility work machine operators can switch into all-wheel steer mode. Four steerable axles deliver a tighter turning radius than a compact tractor, utility vehicle or pickup truck for better maneuverability, particularly when working in tight areas.
