Agricultural issues should have played a bigger part in the Federal Election Campaign.
That’s the view for most agricultural groups including the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.Ron Bonnett says now that Canada has elected a liberal majority government, we'll have stability in government going forward adding it’s important to keep the discussion on agriculture going.
"This would be the time for farmers to really start talking to some of the elected officials and bring them up to speed on what agriculture is all about. Likely alot of those new MP's and I think I saw some place that sixty three percent of MP's that are new, their going to have to be brought up to speed not only on the economic value of agriculture but also what are some of the things that the government can do to really build on the potential that we have."
Bonnett adds that there are a number of agricultural issues needing further discussion especially relating to labour shortages, risk management and trade.
