Canola Council statement on the National Food Security Strategy

The Canola Council of Canada (CCC) welcomes the release of the National Food Security Strategy by the Government of Canada. Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sectors generally, and the canola industry specifically, are strategic assets that drive economic growth and position Canada as a global leader in food, feed and fuel. A science-based regulatory environment that fosters innovation and investment, while maintaining health and safety, is a critical contributor to continued growth and increasing Canada’s competitiveness at home and abroad.

“The National Food Security Strategy rightly identifies the need to improve Canada’s regulatory systems to better foster innovation and investment in our sectors and industries,” says Chris Davison, CCC president & CEO. “We welcome the Strategy’s ambition to eliminate the approval backlogs at our regulatory agencies by the end of 2026, and to reduce approval timelines for new technologies. This will send an important signal that Canada is open for business, and that industry and government can work together to ensure farmers have timely access to the innovative tools they need, while supporting the broader goals of increasing both the volume and value of the crops and products we produce.”

The CCC will work closely with government and industry partners on the implementation of the Strategy to drive positive outcomes for the canola value chain and further unlock the potential of Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sectors.

The Canola Council of Canada is a full value chain organization representing canola growers, processors, life science companies and exporters.
