Canola Crush Margins

Canola market reports will often refer to the term crush margins, and that crush margins are changing, which then affects the price of canola. But what is the crush margin and why is it important to canola prices? To answer those questions, we’ve got Neil Blue, crop market analyst with Alberta Agriculture, on the line.

Blue says canola meal and oil have well developed markets, which will keep Canadian crushers keen to attract canola deliveries in competition with export demand. And as he mentioned, farmers may see stronger canola basis levels again this season after harvest selling pressure subsides.
