Canterra Seeds CEO Welcomes Agricultural Growth Act

The president and ceo of Canterra Seeds says farmers will be the beneficiaries of the new Agricultural Growth Act that became law late last week.

The omnibus bill will work to bring Canada into conformity with the global international plant breeder's rights standards contained in UPOV-91.

David Hansen says the bill will mean more choices for growers.

"We're getting better genetics, we're getting new traits, there's just more technology, more dollars being put into plant breeding," he said. "With the anticipation that more investment means more products, more choices, more options for the grower."

Canterra Seeds hosted Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz last Friday in Winnipeg as he announced that the bill had received Royal Assent.
