CDC Hikes Butter Support Price, Slashes Skim Milk Powder Support

The Canadian support prices for butter and skim milk powder are headed in opposite directions.

The Canadian Dairy Commission is raising it’s support price of butter by about 38 cents to just over 7 dollars and 78 cents.

The support price for skim milk power is going down about 2 dollars and 90 cents to almost 4.42 a kilogram.

Those are the prices the CDC pays when buying and selling butter and skim milk powder under it’s Domestic Seasonality Programs.

Those programs are designed to balance seasonal change in demand on the domestic market.

The Commission expects the changes to mean an overall revenue increase for producers of about 2 point 2 per cent for milk processed into yogurt , ice cream, cheese and butter.

Fluid milk prices are set under a different process.

These price changes go into effect February 1st of next year.
