Celebrate Woodlands Appreciation Week with action on biodiversity

The Fourth Annual Woodlands Appreciation Week will be celebrated from Sunday May 14 to Saturday May 20, 2023. Each day during this week, the Ontario Woodlot Association promotes member action based on their theme Our Woodlands - Bastions of Biodiversity. Over 20 actions for biodiversity will be proposed to members throughout the week.

“Biodiversity or biological diversity is defined as the variety of all living things and their interactions. It can change over time as animals and plants go extinct and new species evolve. We often speak of three different levels of biodiversity: ecosystem, genetic and species diversity.

There is great concern that a worldwide decline in biodiversity is occurring, and that it must be reversed. We all have a role and responsibility to do our part to help achieve this change, and as OWA members, we have the advantage of being able to use our woodlots to directly promote and advance biodiversity and its principles, through best management practices.”
