CFA President To Step Down Next Year

After holding the position for nearly nine years, Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) President Ron Bonnett has decided not to run again when his term expires next February.

He says he's pleased with what the organization has been able to accomplish over that time, describing the current board as dynamic and engaged.

"I'm a great believer that you've got to encourage leadership to move up through an organization. I've seen some organizations where people sit in the position for years and years and it almost discourages people from taking the opportunity to move forward and have new blood and new ideas come in."

Bonnett, who is a cow-calf producer in northern Ontario, says he may spend more time on the farm after he steps down from the position.

The departure of Ron Bonnett means someone will have to fill the role.

The groups Vice President Norm Hall is a Saskatchewan farmer.

He has said he’d be willing to let his name stand for the role of President at the groups AGM in February (2019).

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture is Canada's largest general farm organization representing approximately 200,000 Canadian farm families from coast to coast.
