Country music fundraiser for world hunger goes virtual

Many things have changed this year, but one thing that hasn’t? The dedication many Ontario residents have for helping people around the world who are hungry.

On Sunday, November 1, beginning at 7 p.m., a previously recorded live concert will be premiered on Youtube. Viewers are encouraged to tune in, and make donations to Canadian Foodgrains Bank to be used in the work of responding to hunger needs around the world.
“The current pandemic situation is increasing the number of people experiencing hunger around the world,” says Henry Reinders, Foodgrains Bank regional representative for Ontario. “The needs are great, and I am thankful in advance for all the Ontario supporters who will once again come out and lend their virtual support.”

The concert features Naomi Bristow, a country music singer and yodeler from Beeton, Ontario.

“I am excited to be a part of this upcoming event to get back out performing again,” she says. “I have missed engaging and connecting with people through music this year and this concert will allow for us virtually to enjoy some good old country and gospel music and hear some great stories.”

In past years, the concert has been held live and in-person in Meaford. While it’s not how anyone would have preferred, Bristow and Reinders are optimistic the show will still be entertaining.
As Bristow points out, “We will make the best of current situations...the show must go on!”

For his part, Reinders is excited to see the show come together, and to bring people together virtually around support for a shared cause. “Knowing that people who care about their global neighbours will be coming together, even virtually, to make a difference is something to celebrate,” he says.
