Dairy Farmers Say Trudeau Government Has Broken Another Promise

Canadian dairy farmers are less than pleased with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The final text of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement was signed Friday, November 30 in Argentina at the G20 Summit.

Dairy Farmers of Canada Vice President, David Wiens, says along with Canadian dairy market access given up, the trade deal includes U.S. oversight.

"By granting oversight to the U.S. in the administration of our dairy system, not only is he reneging on his Government's commitment, but he's giving up our Canadian sovereignty."

On Thursday, November 29 the group wrote Trudeau a letter explaining the trade deal still had this provision which the Government said would not be in the final agreement.

In a statement Dairy Farmers of Canada says, it's truly disingenuous of the government to suggest they made progress in the way the oversight provision is finalized in the agreement.

They say, After CETA, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and USMCA trade deals, the combined concessions made to other countries to our domestic dairy market is close to 20 per cent.
