Farm and Food Care Champion Award Recipient Named

Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan has named the 2018 recipient of its annual Farm and Food Care Champion Award.
The Farm and Food Care Champion Award was established to recognize the efforts of an individual who has taken the initiative to educate consumers about agriculture in the province of Saskatchewan.
The 2018 award was presented yesterday in Saskatoon as part of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan's 2018 Farms at the Table Conference.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says this award stresses the importance of how we all need to get out there and make sure consumers understand what we're doing.

This year's winner was Sherri Grant.
Sherri ranches in the Val Marie area with her husband Lynn.
She's been a very dedicated volunteer for numerous years.
We always see her at Agribition, she's always involved with kids, very active on the beef side promoting the industry and again promoting what their farm and their ranch is doing down in Val Marie.
She's really taken an active role with things like the educational portions of Agribition.
She's even authored a book called where beef comes from.
She explains in the book in easy to understand terms that a child can understand how that calf is raised and what ranch life looks like all the way to the feedlot and processing.
I think these are the truthful and transparent messages that we need to get out to consumers.
She really is a champion on the beef side of things and somebody that we need to celebrate.
She truly is a champion for agriculture here in this province.

Monchuk says we're in a state where less than three percent of the population has a direct tie to a farm or a ranch.
He says consumers are getting their information from other sources so we need to make sure we're active in sharing our stories so consumers understand the truth of what we do on our farms.
