New feature helps farmers compare crop plans and improve decisions

Farm Credit Canada (FCC) has introduced a new digital planning feature designed to help farmers make better decisions before the growing season begins. The feature, called CropPlan+, is part of the AgExpert Field Premium platform and uses historical farm data to support crop planning.

Modern farming faces many challenges, including changing market conditions, increasing production costs, and unpredictable weather. These factors can make it difficult for producers to determine the best cropping strategy for their farms. CropPlan+ aims to simplify this process by allowing farmers to compare different crop plans and explore how various scenarios may affect their operations.

The tool enables users to test potential changes in crop yields, commodity prices, and input costs. By reviewing these different possibilities, farmers can better understand the financial outcomes of their decisions before planting season begins. This can help reduce uncertainty and improve overall farm planning.

"Canadian producers are among the best in the world at what they do and their tools should match that,” said Mohamad Yaghi, FCC Vice-President for Innovation Hub and AgExpert. “CropPlan+ puts world class planning in every operation’s hands, turning a farm’s own data into sharper, faster, more confident decisions. When producers plan with precision, they compete harder at home and abroad. That is how every producer's data, kept firmly in their own hands, build an advantage the whole sector shares.”

FCC says the feature was developed with direct input from producers to ensure it meets the needs of modern farming operations. The goal is to provide practical support that helps farmers feel more confident when making important business decisions.

CropPlan+ also highlights the growing role of technology in agriculture. By turning years of farm data into useful insights, the feature helps producers make more informed choices while keeping control of their own information. Better planning can lead to improved efficiency, stronger financial performance, and greater resilience in changing market conditions.

As data-driven farming continues to grow, tools like CropPlan+ can help producers better manage risk and prepare for future opportunities. By combining historical records with easy-to-use planning features, the platform offers a smarter way for farmers to evaluate options and build successful crop strategies.
