HAM Group opens South America’s first Bio-LNG plant in Chile

HAM Group and its subsidiary HAM Chile, in partnership with Empresas Lipigas, have inaugurated their first Bio-LNG upgrading and production plant in South America.

Located in the Ñuble region, the facility will convert biogas into liquid biomethane for distribution by Lipigas to transport companies and industries across Chile, supporting the country’s shift toward cleaner energy.
The new plant features a modular, containerised “plug and play” design made up of six interconnected units.

Three modules are dedicated to biogas treatment — including cleaning and liquefaction — while the other three provide essential auxiliary services such as water and dry-air supply.

This configuration allowed the installation and commissioning process to be completed in notably reduced timeframes.Bio-LNG produced at the site originates from biogas generated in an anaerobic co-digestion facility that processes organic waste from the pork industry.
In its initial phase, the plant will be capable of treating 7,500 m³ of biogas per day, with plans to expand capacity to 16,500 m³ per day as operations scale up.

The resulting biomethane will be used as a renewable fuel for Lipigas service stations, supplying truck fleets travelling across Chile and aiding the decarbonisation of the road transport sector.
