With food prices continuing to put pressure on household budgets, Canadian consumers are increasingly looking for ways to make their grocery dollars go further. At the same time, there is growing interest in understanding how food is produced and how innovation in agriculture plays a role in keeping food available and affordable.
Organizations such as Canadian Food Focus are working to bridge that knowledge gap by providing science-based information about how food is grown and raised in Canada.
According to Managing Director Dorothy Long, food affordability is currently the biggest concern among consumers. Rising grocery bills are forcing many families to rethink how they shop and plan meals, while some households are facing even greater challenges related to food security.
“Food prices are the number one pressure point for consumers right now,” Long explains. “It’s a complicated issue that ranges from families who are struggling to afford groceries to those trying to be more strategic about how they spend their food budget.”
One of the key areas where Canadian Food Focus is working to support consumers is food literacy—helping people develop practical skills such as meal planning, creating shopping lists, and reducing food waste. These strategies can help households maximize their grocery spending while ensuring they still have access to nutritious meals.
