Let’s continue to support Parry Sound-Muskoka farmers: MPP Miller

PARRY SOUND — MUSKOKA -Even with Ontario Agriculture Week and Thanksgiving being over, Ontario families and the Ontario government should continue to support Ontario farmers who have been left behind by the concessions during the recent trade negotiations with the United States.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller highlighted how Ontario’s supply-managed sectors, in particular dairy farmers, will be hard hit by the federal concessions.

“Ontario stood shoulder to shoulder with our federal government during the negotiations, now we are asking the federal government to join us in standing shoulder to shoulder with our farmers,” said Miller. “This deal is putting pressure on our hard working dairy, poultry and egg farmers and we will hold the federal government to its word that it will compensate our supply managed farmers for the concessions made at the bargaining table.”

Miller took some time out of his Thanksgiving Weekend to attend the Rosseau Pumpkin Festival and Farmers' Market to show his support for Ontario Agriculture. In celebration of Ontario Agriculture Week, he also visited Spring Hill Farms in Trout Creek to see their greenhouses, which supply vegetables to local restaurants year round.
