Michigan Winter Wheat Production And Hay Stocks

Michigan wheat growers expect the statewide yield to equal the state record high, according to the USDA, NASS, Great Lakes Regional Office . Michigan producers expect to harvest 510,000 acres, up 25,000 acres from last year. Wheat production in the State is expected to be 38.8 m illion bushels. The yield forecast of 76 bushels would be 2 bushels above the previous year .

U.S winter wheat production is forecast at 1.47 billion bushels, up 7 percent from 2014. As of May 1, the United States yield is forecast at 43.5 bushels per acr e, up 0.9 bushel from last year.

Hay stocks on Michigan farms on May 1, 2015 were 490,000 tons, up 81% from this time last year. All hay stored on United States farms May 1, 2015 totaled 24.5 million tons, up 28 percent from a year ago. Disappearance fr om December 1, 2014 - May 1, 2015 totaled 67.5 million tons, compared with 70.1 million tons for the same period a year earlier.
