More Ontario Bees Survived Winter

A survey by the Ontario Beekeepers Association suggests winter losses this year are lower than they were last year.

411 Ontario beekeepers answered the OBA’s recent survey.

The association says brevity of the survey limits its statistically certainty.

Overall, the OBA estimates winter losses this year to be in the 30 to 35 per cent range.

Beekeepers reported a much higher 58 per cent loss last year.

However, OBA President Tibor Szabo says the winter losses are still well above the desired rate of 15 per cent or less.
