Net farm income in North Dakota is projected to rise by 39% in 2025, reaching $4.79 billion, the state’s highest since 2021, according to a new collaborative report from the Center for Agricultural Policy and Trade Studies at NDSU and the Rural and Farm Finance Policy Analysis Center at the University of Missouri.
However, the report warns that this surge is policy-driven and likely short-lived. The increase in income is largely attributed to a rise in direct government payments, which are forecast to hit $3.0 billion in 2025. These payments are part of a federal response to ongoing challenges in the agricultural sector, including weather extremes, volatile input costs and declining crop revenues.
