Office of the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct introduces Fruits and Vegetables Primary Producer Liaison Group

The Office of the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct (OGSCC) recognizes that the fruit and vegetable sector operates within a distinct context, shaped by factors such as seasonality, perishability and a landscape that includes many small farms and growing businesses. In light of these realities, it was important to ensure that the perspectives of this sector are appropriately reflected in how the Code is implemented across the sector.

The OGSCC is therefore pleased to establish a Fruits and Vegetables Primary Producer Liaison Group, developed in close collaboration with national and provincial grower associations across Canada.

The Liaison Group serves as a forum through which grower associations and OGSCC fruit and vegetable grower members can raise systemic issues and provide practical insight on how the Code is being implemented in the fruit and vegetable sector. Its role is to help the OGSCC better understand recurring challenges and identify areas where guidance, education or further action may be needed to support effective application of the Code.

Participation in the Liaison Group does not replace the direct relationship between the OGSCC and individual fruit and vegetable primary producers. Code protections and access to the dispute resolution process remain available only to members. However, grower associations participating in the Liaison Group play an important role in encouraging, grower primary producers to become members so they can benefit directly from these protections and tools.
