Ontario corn planting has mostly wrapped up, with soybean planting still underway in areas across the province.
The latest weekly field observations report from Grain Farmers of Ontario showed corn planting at an estimated 99% complete as of Wednesday, up 6 points from the previous week. Meanwhile, soybean planting advanced to 96% done as of Wednesday, compared to 80% a week earlier.

Rain moved across the province over the weekend; however, it was spotty. Over the past few days, storms have moved through with some variation in where, and how much, moisture was received.
“Rain would be appreciated to give crops a bit of a reprieve,” the report said.
For corn, any remaining acres will soon be switched to soybeans if they haven’t already. Those who have livestock and need corn for feed will be changing hybrids to account for the later planting, the report said.
The growth stage for much of the corn crop is between three and seven leaves (V2 to V6 collar); however, some corn fields are still emerging in areas that saw later plantings.
Soybean stages range from just planted all the way up to the second trifoliate (V2).
Winter wheat is staging from the boot stage to flowering (GS47, flag leaf sheath opening, to GS71, kernel watery ripe). With recent warm weather, the wheat crop is moving through growth stages quickly. Spring cereals are in the tillering to stem elongation growth stages.
