Saskatchewan Agriculture Releases First Crop Report Of 2020

Seeding operations are underway in many areas of the Province. 
 
Saskatchewan Agriculture releasing it's first Crop Report of the season.
 
According to the report 7 per cent of the 2020 Crop is now in the ground. 
 
Seeding is most advanced in the southeast where 10 per cent of crop is in, 9 per cent is seeded in the southwest, 7 per cent in the west-central region, 2 per cent in the east-central and northwest and less than 1 per cent in the northeast. 
 
So far, farmers have 11 per cent of the field peas in, 10 per cent of chickpeas and durum, 9 per cent of lentils and oats, 4 per cent of spring wheat and 2 per cent of canola. 
 
Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as seven per cent surplus, 81 per cent adequate, 11 per cent short and one per cent very short. 
 
Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as two per cent surplus, 77 per cent adequate, 19 per cent short and two per cent very short. 
 
Overall, farmers are busy getting ready for seeding, combining last year’s crop, spraying, applying fertilizers, harrowing and seeding in some areas.
