Soybean Rust Update October 12th

Nathan Kleczewski Ph.D
Extension Specialist- Plant Pathology

SBR has not been detected in Delaware, although it was detected in additional counties in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and even Southern Illinois this week (see map below).  Although we have had wet weather it has been very cold, and not conducive to spread of the disease.  Most double crop beans are at R6 or will be at this stage within a few days.  If SBR arrives and beans are at or past R6 there should be no impacts on yield.

Scouting of beans at stages earlier than R6 should continue, but it appears that Delaware beans will avoid being impacted by SBR for yet another year.  Continue to monitor the SBR ipmPIPE website for statewide updates: http://sbr.ipmpipe.org/cgi-bin/sbr/public.cgi
