Beef Farmers of Ontario Name Change Revealed

By Amanda Brodhagen, Farms.com

Beef Farmers of Ontario (BFO), formally known as Ontario Cattlemen’s Association made its new look public, Tuesday. The organization that represents Ontario’s 19,000 beef producers launched its new name and website.

Earlier this year, the organization voted in favour of a name change at its annual general meeting, held in February. It marked the second time a constitutional name change for rebranding was brought forward in the past five years. The transition to a new name aligns the organization with other livestock groups such as Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

"As we embark on a new era as the Beef Farmers of Ontario, we strongly believe the change in name is a natural evolution and a name that our membership can be proud of and stand behind with confidence for years to come,” BFO President Dan Darling said in a news release.

The new brand positions itself to be more consumer friendly, not only with the name change, but the logo itself. Logo colours of brown and green conjure up images of cattle and fields, which better reflects the organization’s brand compared to the previous colours of navy blue and black. The modern look represents an organization which strives to be a clearer and more effective voice for Ontario’s beef farmers.  See for yourself at www.ontariobeef.com or follow @OntarioBeef for updates.

Video: Spring weed control in winter wheat with Broadway® Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam)

#CortevaTalks brings you a short update with Cereal Herbicides Category Manager, Alister McRobbie, on how to get the most out of Broadway® Star.

Significant populations of grassweeds, including ryegrass and brome, can threaten winter wheat yields. Spring applications of a contact graminicide, such as Broadway Star from Corteva Agriscience, can clear problem weeds, allowing crops to grow away in the spring.

Broadway Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam) controls ryegrass, sterile brome, wild oats and a range of broad-leaved weeds such as cleavers. It can be applied to winter wheat up until GS32, but the earlier the application is made, the smaller the weed, and the greater the benefit to the crop. Weeds should be actively growing. A good rule of thumb is that if your grass needs cutting, conditions are right to apply Broadway Star.
