This is Agriculture: Liz Pham

Liz Pham is the Chief Growth Officer at GrainFox. Liz came to GrainFox, formerly known as FarmLink, during a career transition with no prior experience in agriculture, and found that the skills she had developed earlier in her career were transferable to her exciting new role in agtech. GrainFox has participated in activities at EMILI’s Innovation Farms powered by AgExpert, and we were pleased to have Liz share her expertise on a panel at Agriculture Enlightened 2024. Here, Liz shares her thoughts on working in agtech as well as valuable advice for anyone considering a career in digital agriculture.

Describe your product in one sentence
GrainFox is a powerful digital platform that supports producers on their journey from bin to bank with personalized strategies and farm wealth tools, while also equipping agribusinesses with market insights and decision-making tools to drive success across the agricultural value chain.

Where did you grow up? Was it an agriculture or urban environment?
Our family immigrated from Vietnam to Canada in 1982, and we have spent most of our lives growing up in Winnipeg.

What was your dream job when you were a kid?
Sports have always been a significant part of my life and still are today. The skills I gained from playing on sports teams – teamwork, resilience, hard work, commitment, communication, and drive – are invaluable and continue to shape my professional and personal life. As a kid, my dream was to play in the NBA (since the WNBA didn’t exist yet). I aspired to be a professional athlete, and if that didn’t work out, I dreamed of becoming a sports analyst or working for the Nike Air Jordan brand.

What was your first job in the agriculture or agri-food sector?
I joined GrainFox, formerly FarmLink Marketing Solutions, in 2018 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. As the company developed its GrainFox platform and rebranded to GrainFox Corp., I transitioned into the role of Chief Growth Officer to support its expansion and growth.

What brought you to your current role?
During a career transition after my maternity leave, I was introduced to the agriculture industry through FarmLink. Although new to the sector, I recognized that my transferable skills from previous roles could bring significant value to the company. Entering a growing industry also offered exciting career growth opportunities, making it an ideal next step in my professional journey.

Video: A Farm Song (Busy) | Parody of A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey

Lyrics:

My days begin with workin’, Alarm’s at 5 o’clock,
I Fill 5 gallon buckets, The feeders and the troughs,
This five to nine ain’t workin’, why the heck do I work so hard?,
I can’t worry ‘bout health problems, I can sleep in when I’m gone,

One, here comes the two to the three to the four,
Tell em’ ‘buy another cow, we need plenty more’,
Blue jeans are gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
There’s another flock of sheep that still needs feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

I’ve been working pretty stressed but,
I ain’t changing for some cash,
Lord knows that I’m very blessed (More chores),
But I gotta say it’s hard,
Workin’ outside gettin’ charred,
Living out here on the farm, (more chores)

One, here comes the two to the three to the four,
Tell em’ ‘buy another cow, we need plenty more’,
Blue jeans are gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history
There’s another 20 chickens that still need feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Everybody on the farm getting’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Fun, here on ranch that’s what you can’t ignore,
Might be pretty hard but I love it to its core,
Flannel’s gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores (Tell ‘em sing with me)

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
There’s another flock of sheep that still needs feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
Watching cattle in the dark, don’t miss me,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
(Yeeeeeehaw)
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
It’s the best bro, go get yourself a farm
