Western Grains Research Foundation Reaches Agreement With U of A

The Western Grains Research Foundation in Saskatoon has reached a five year agreement with the University of Alberta on wheat research.
 
Foundation chair Dave Sefton says his agency will provide 800 thousand dollars to improve wheat yields and disease resistance.
 
Two months ago the Grains Foundation signed five year agreement with the University of Saskatchewan for 5.2 million dollars in research and the University of Manitoba for 1.9 million dollars in wheat research.

Roots are not passive structures simply pulling nutrients out of the soil. They are active participants in the underground ecosystem. Plants constantly release compounds into the soil—sugars, amino acids, organic acids, and other molecules—that act as both energy sources and signals for soil microbes.
