US youth showcase ideas for pork industry issues at major expo event
The Young Pork Advocates Issues Meet is set to return for its third year at the World Pork Expo. The event will take place on June 3 and 4 in Des Moines, Iowa. It is organized by the National Pork Producers Council and supported by industry partners.
This program brings young participants aged 18 to 22 to the stage, where they present ideas to address important challenges in the pork industry. Their proposals are turned into mock policy motions. This process gives participants a clear understanding of how agricultural policies are developed in the United States.
The competition aims to highlight the knowledge and skills of young people interested in pork production. It also encourages them to think critically about industry challenges and possible solutions. The event provides a valuable platform for learning and professional growth.
Top performers in the competition receive scholarship awards. The first-place winner earns a $10,000 scholarship along with a fully funded trip to a national legislative conference in Washington, D.C. This opportunity enables participants to gain further exposure to agricultural leadership and policymaking.
Industry leaders believe the event plays an important role in shaping the future workforce. It showcases talented young individuals who are committed to building careers in agriculture. Their ideas reflect innovation and a strong understanding of industry needs.
“The young people who participate are exceptional. The ideas they present demonstrate the strength of the future pork industry workforce,” said NOVUS Regional Sales Manager Eric Sanny. “I’m looking forward to meeting the next generation of pork experts during this year’s Meet.”
The preliminary rounds of the competition will be held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, while the final round will take place on a main stage at the Expo. This final event will be held just before the closing activities, giving participants a chance to present their ideas to a larger audience.
Overall, the Young Pork Advocates Issues Meet supports youth development in agriculture by combining education, competition, and real-world experience. It helps prepare the next generation of leaders for the evolving pork industry.
