USDA : Weekly Export Sales report

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period October 23-29, 2009.

Wheat:  Net sales of 284,500 metric tons were down 18 percent from the previous week and 49 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (68,000 MT), Iran (60,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Thailand (47,500 MT), China (36,600 MT, including 35,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Nigeria (31,100 MT, including 6,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), South Korea (23,100 MT), Japan (22,800 MT), the Netherlands (22,500 MT), and Colombia (17,400 MT, including 16,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 1,200 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (96,200 MT).  Exports of 289,800 MT were down 33 percent from the previous week and 45 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (47,400 MT), China (45,600 MT), Taiwan (32,900 MT), South Korea (25,200 MT), Panama (24,500 MT), and the Netherlands (22,500 MT).  

Corn:  Net sales of 564,000 MT were up 54 percent from the previous week and 29 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Canada (211,200 MT), Japan (186,800 MT, including 53,100 MT switched from unknown destinations), Taiwan (83,100 MT, including 58,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Mexico (63,400 MT), Morocco (45,700 MT, including 47,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 3,000 MT), the Dominican Republic (22,800 MT), and El Salvador (14,000 MT, switched from Guatemala).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (67,500 MT), Guatemala (11,600 MT), Venezuela (3,500 MT), and Honduras (2,300 MT).  Net sales of 7,200 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Canada. Optional origin sales totaling 1,200 MT for Colombia were canceled.  Exports of 708,200 MT were up 6 percent from the previous week, but down 14 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (236,100 MT), Mexico (128,200 MT), Colombia (63,700 MT), Peru (46,900 MT), Morocco (45,700 MT), Canada (38,700 MT), and Honduras (28,500 MT).  

Barley: There were no sales reported during the week.  Exports of 2,100 MT were to Canada (1,800 MT) and Mexico (300 MT).

Sorghum:  Net sales of 45,600 MT were for Mexico (25,900 MT) and Japan (19,700 MT).   Exports of 47,300 MT were to Mexico (43,900 MT) and Japan (3,400 MT).

Rice:  Net sales of 36,400 MT were down 51 percent from the previous week and 46 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (12,000 MT), Haiti (11,100 MT), Guatemala (3,400 MT), Costa Rica (2,100 MT), Japan (1,700 MT), and Saudi Arabia (1,100 MT).  Decreases were reported for Canada (500 MT).  Exports of 52,200 MT were down 25 percent from the previous week and 11 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Costa Rica (13,000 MT), Mexico (12,600 MT), Canada (5,200 MT), Haiti (3,600 MT), Jamaica (3,400 MT), and Honduras (2,900 MT).  

Soybeans:  Net sales of 522,100 MT were down 24 percent from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (290,800 MT, including 116,000 MT switched from unknown destinations, 46,700 MT switched from the United Kingdom, and decreases of 71,100 MT), Turkey (175,900 MT, including 127,700 MT switched from unknown destinations), the Netherlands (75,200 MT, including 70,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Mexico (69,200 MT), Iran (66,100 MT, including 63,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Indonesia (65,400 MT), and Israel (57,500 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (322,200 MT), the United Kingdom (65,000 MT), Canada (36,600 MT), and Italy (18,000 MT).  Net sales of 2,800 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Japan.  Exports of 1,692,400 MT were up 18 percent from the previous week and up noticeably from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (1,028,700 MT), Turkey (135,900 MT), the Netherlands (75,200 MT), Taiwan (69,700 MT), Indonesia (67,000 MT), and Thailand (66,400 MT).   

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 116,700 MT were down 34 percent from the previous week.  Increases were reported for Ecuador (26,600 MT, including 25,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Morocco (23,800 MT, including 8,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Turkey (19,400 MT), Russia (15,000 MT, including 7,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Peru (14,500 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (11,600 MT), Algeria (9,000 MT), and the Dominican Republic (7,300 MT).  Exports of 171,200 MT were up 3 percent from the previous week.  The primary destinations were Ecuador (26,600 MT), Turkey (19,400 MT), Japan (15,700 MT), Canada (15,700 MT), and Russia (15,000 MT). 

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 6,900 MT resulted as increases for Malaysia (15,500 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Vietnam (15,000 MT, including 9,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), and South Korea (10,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (40,300 MT).  Exports of 99,000 MT were up noticeably from the previous week.  The primary destinations were Peru (40,000 MT), Malaysia (15,500 MT), Vietnam (15,000 MT), South Korea (10,000 MT), and Tunisia (10,000 MT).  

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 183,500 running bales were up noticeably from the previous week and the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Vietnam (26,500 RB), Mexico (24,000 RB), Turkey (22,800 RB), Thailand (22,500 RB), China (20,100 RB), and South Korea (16,200 RB).  Net sales of 29,300 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were for El Salvador (16,700 RB), Mexico (14,200 RB), South Korea (10,000 RB), and Guatemala (6,000 RB).  Decreases were reported for Morocco (16,700 RB) and China (900 RB).  Exports of 177,600 RB were up 62 percent from the previous week and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.   The primary destinations were Turkey (37,300 RB), China (19,600 RB), Indonesia (19,300 RB), Mexico (17,800 RB), Colombia (14,600 RB), Pakistan (11,200 RB), and Thailand (10,200 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 32,000 RB were down 50 percent from the previous week and 13 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (22,400 RB), Egypt (3,100 RB), Pakistan (3,000 RB), and Germany (2,100 RB).  Decreases were reported for Indonesia (4,500 RB).  Exports 21,100 RB--a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (12,700 RB), India (4,900 RB), and Pakistan (1,600 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 482,400 pieces were up 13 percent from the previous week and 2 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hides sales of 472,900 pieces were primarily for China (279,800 pieces), South Korea (78,800 pieces), Hong Kong (38,600 pieces), Taiwan (25,300 pieces), and Mexico (22,000 pieces).  Decreases were reported for Canada (5,800 pieces).  Exports of 373,900 pieces were down 28 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 369,900 pieces were primarily to China (207,400 pieces), South Korea (62,500 pieces), Taiwan (29,500 pieces), Thailand (28,900 pieces), Mexico (13,600 pieces), and Hong Kong (12,800 pieces).

Net sales of 133,600 wet blues were down 22 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Mexico (22,700 grain splits and 4,100 unsplit), Italy (24,600 unsplit), Thailand (19,200 unsplit), and Taiwan (15,200 unsplit).  Exports of 111,900 hides were up 12 percent from the previous week, but down 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (36,100 unsplit and 3,600 grain splits), Italy (20,200 unsplit and 3,600 grain splits), Mexico (19,500 grain splits and 3,000 unsplit), and Vietnam (11,200 unsplit).  Net sales reductions of splits totaling 25,800 pounds resulted as increases for Hong Kong (200 pounds) were more than offset by decreases for South Korea (26,000 pounds).  Exports of 128,200 pounds were down 88 percent from the previous week and 80 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were South Korea (84,000 pounds) and Hong Kong (44,200 pounds).

Beef:  Net sales of 9,000 MT were primarily for South Korea (2,700 MT), Mexico (2,000 MT), Japan (1,400 MT), Canada (1,400 MT), and Vietnam (600 MT).  Net sales of 400 MT for delivery in 2010 were mainly for South Korea (200 MT).  Exports of 10,900 MT were mainly to Mexico (2,900 MT), Canada (1,800 MT), South Korea (1,600 MT), Japan (1,500 MT), and Vietnam (1,300 MT).
