Sask. nominations are due by Nov. 15

The 2025 Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer’s national event takes place in Toronto later this month, but work is already underway to get ready for 2026.

The deadlines for some regional nominations to be considered in next year’s crop of young farmers are fast approaching.

Saskatchewan has the earliest deadline with nominations due by Nov. 15.

The nominations for representatives from B.C. and the Yukon, Alberta and N.W.T., Ontario, and Atlantic Canada, are due by Dec. 31.

Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer’s program recognizes farmers between 18 and 39 for their accomplishments on the farm and in the community.

Nominees are judged on multiple criteria:

  • Progress made in their agriculture career,
  • Environmental and safety practices,
  • Crop and production livestock history,
  • Financial and management practices, and
  • Contributions to their community, province, or nation.

One province already has 2026 regional nominees listed.

Three operations from Quebec are vying to represent the province in next year’s national competition.

They are La Seigneurie Farm, a dairy, grain and maple syrup farm from Saint Camille, Honeycomb Farm, a beekeeping operation from Saint-Adrien-d’Irlande, and SB Pork Farm in St.Elzéar.

Each region will have a local event in 2026 to determine its representative at the national event later that year:

  • Quebec – Jan. 13 and 14
  • B.C. – Jan. 21 and 22
  • Manitoba – March 14 and 15
  • Saskatchewan – March 18 and 19
  • Ontario – April 7
  • Alberta – June 17 and 18
  • Atlantic Canada – July 20 to 22
